Alzheimers Giving Circle

The Pittsburgh Foundation is interested in exploring how Alzheimer’s and other dementia disorders impact caregivers and families who are dealing with the physical, emotional, and financial ramifications of the illness. In thinking about how we can collaborate on this issue with our donor family and local committed partners, we are launching a Giving Circle to address this area.

A giving circle is a pooled fund, through which members work together to evaluate projects in the focus area. Members of the giving circle benefit from learning together about the needs facing the community, a deeper level of involvement with nonprofit grantees, a better sense of the social return on their investment in nonprofit organizations, networking and socializing with peers who share similar values and concerns, and hands-on grantmaking experiences.

Each member is asked to donate $2,500 to the pooled fund, and The Pittsburgh Foundation will match each donation. The circle will determine a final grant commitment to worthy organizations in our community. A donation may be made through your Fund or by personal means. The expectation is that the members will meet for four monthly sessions as they go through a grantmaking cycle which will include education on current research, effective grantmaking principals, and site visits to potential recipients of grants.

if you have would like to join the circle or have any questions please call Kelly Uranker, Director of Donor Education, at (412) 394-2604 or urankerk@pghfdn.org.
